Athletes in Overalls is a nonprofit focused on fostering healthier work practices for farmers and others in physically demanding occupations. We’re dedicated to improving work culture related to overall worker well-being, and reducing and preventing work-related musculoskeletal injuries.
Our Team
Cynthia Flores
PresidentCynthia is the founder of Labor-Movement to be a resource, educator, and coach to farmers, farmworkers, and industrial athletes in body mechanics and movement pattern training. She is a personal trainer and licensed massage therapist.
Before Labor-Movement, she was a farm business owner for 20 years in western Maine, working primarily in small scale vegetable production. Prior to farming, Cynthia was a Lead Instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates, instructor at Outward Bound in Maine, and a logistician at NOLS Baja.
Cynthia enjoys finding lesser traveled trails and swim holes, reading and listening to podcasts, and is finishing a degree in Economics at the University of Maine.
Mary Beth Brandt
Board TreasurerMary Beth has a diverse background that spans both for-profit and nonprofit sectors, effortlessly weaving through the worlds of experiential education and craft brewing. Always eager to learn, she dives into every aspect of the organizations she joins.
She has worked with Outward Bound, Wilderness Medical Associates, and Chewonki Foundation
An avid adventurer, Mary Beth has explored the globe mountaineering in Ecuador and Wyoming, bikepacking along the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, and sailing in the Coral Sea. Closer to home she spends most of her free time trying to keep up with her chocolate lab Declan.
Board SecretaryJohn Rooks
John is a sustainability consultant with 30 years of experience helping companies, governments and NGOs develop cultures of sustainability.
Also a former gym owner, and has worked in the agriculture sector for statewide awareness campaigns, forestry trade associations and lobbyists, and developing resiliency frameworks for the marine living resources sector.
John continues his fitness journey exposing his weaknesses through triathlons, crossfit, Hyrox, bike touring, gravel biking, and ultra marathons.
